Auchen Castle Wedding Photography

I’m very excited to share this stunning wedding from last year when I got to spend a few days in beautiful Scotland. Alex and Sarah had the most wonderful wedding weekend when their family took over the stunning Auchen Castle and celebrated in style.

Sarah and Alex had only just met when Alex became seriously ill with septicaemia.  As Alex recovered their romance grew and they finally managed some dates away from the hospital. Of course all their friends and family know this story and it produced quite a few laughs when Sarah raised her eyebrows at the ‘in sickness and health’ part of their vows.

When I arrived at Auchen Castle on the morning of the wedding I found my way down a maze of tiny corridors to the beautiful four poster suite where Sarah was beautifully calm and relaxed. My good friend Andrea was working on hair and makeup for Sarah and her sister. Andrea always goes above and beyond for her brides. She had Sarah listening to a meditation app while she finished up with Amanda. There was some concern about the dress being a bit tight as Sarah had just found out she is unexpectedly pregnant. Nothing to worry about though as I’m sure Andrea would have made it all work no matter what she had to do!

The ceremony began with the traditional bagpipes before Sarah’s nephew led the procession wearing his super cute ‘Don’t worry ladies, I’m still single’ sign. He mostly stole the show all day and seeing how close both Alex and Sarah are with him and how much they adore him I can’t wait to see them with their own children.

The day was wet and windy, fairly typical for Scotland in October, but that didn’t stop us dashing outside for a few photos. The castle itself has several large light rooms so it was no problem to do the group photos indoors. I loved the tapestries and suits of armour that give this place a real castle feel while still feeling cosy and luxurious.

Alex and Sarah sat at a sweetheart table for their wedding breakfast. A lovely idea instead of a top table if you prefer. The speeches certainly produced all the feels as you ca see by Sarah’s reactions!

The night ended with everyone dancing and a special performance by Sarah’s singer best friend. She was amazing and had everyone partying until late into the night. Another bonus of taking over a castle is that no one has to go home. They were all able to dance until their feet could take no more and then just stagger upstairs. It made for a fabulous party and wonderful wedding weekend.

I caught up with them all the next morning and there were definitely a few sore heads but Alex and Sarah were bright and cheerful as we headed out up into the surrounding mountains for a couples shoot. I’ll share more of that next week but for now enjoy this gorgeous Auchen castle wedding.
